BEREWOOD PANTHERS YOUTH FC NEWSLETTER AUTUMN 2021
Newsletters have been non-existent over the last 18 months as we have spent hours writing risk assessments instead! But here goes our first 2021 Newsletter!
Welcome to all our new players and their families 😊 We have created new teams and also had teams join us from other clubs. We have been lucky enough to get several new sponsors on board this season, for which we are truly grateful, and thank you for the hard work of those who have made this possible!
We have 5 new kits this season already, with one more in production.
Over the coming months we will include an introduction to some of our committee and coaches for you, and here are the first 6:
Key News:
We will shortly be switching to Winter training, which will be on the Astro at ALNS for most teams, please see your coaches for confirmed details.
Our PAN-disability teams remain at their usual venue of Mountbatten, and the new PAN disability league is getting underway thankfully.
We have extended our GK training to 2 hours, not so your child goes for 2 hours, but so they can fit in seeing both Nige and their team every Wednesday. He will be at ALNS on the new mini cage from 6pm-8pm, just let Nige know what time you are coming. All GKs are welcome but please speak to your coach first. We have produced a GK newsletter too!
We are in the process of bringing in new volunteers who are awaiting their DBS checks and safeguarding training, but as always there is room for anyone who wants to volunteer with us! Please email berewodsecretary@outlook.com if you are interested. We have vacancies for assistant coaches, a coach for the adult men’s team, and one committee vacancy.
Communication – are you in touch? Are you a member of our closed facebook group, and if so have you switched on notifications? Are you on your team chat group? Did you know we have a website? https://www.berewoodpanthers.co.uk/
Finally, we have a big fundraising event on 26th October – save the date and more info soon 😊

Pompey in the Community are delighted to announce a new partnership with local charter standard club Berewood Panthers for the 2020/2021 season.
The partnership will see the introduction of a new player pathway for PAN disability players aged 6-16.
PitC currently provide a free session via the Premier League Kicks programme once a week, which will now feed into Berewood Panthers U12 & U16 teams.
Alongside the midweek session, players will now be able to access an additional Sunday morning training session ran by Berewood Panthers.
Players will then be able to register their interest in signing with the U12 and U16 teams that play in the local PAN disability team affiliated to Hampshire FA, which are supported by both PitC staff and Berewood Panthers coaches.
Taylor Monk, Head of Community Projects at PitC said: “Berewood have been at the forefront of disability provision across Portsmouth based grassroots teams. By joining forces we’re now able to provide more opportunities and in short, long-lasting experiences for our targeted 6-16-year-old participants.
“We’re still working hard with Ian and the team at Berewood to discuss how we can continue to evolve our disability provision across the city in 2021.”
Ian Hurry, Chairman of Berewood Panthers added: “Berewood Panthers Youth FC are extremely excited to announce a partnership with Pompey in the Community.
“This partnership is between two like-minded teams that always put the players first. We are immensely proud to work alongside such a prestigious outfit for the benefit of all of our teams.”

BEREWOOD PANTHERS YOUTH FC GOALKEEPER NEWSLETTER - Spring 2020
Welcome to the first dedicated goalkeeper newsletter! This is designed for parents, carers, and any player who plays in goal, whether a regular keeper or as an alternate/reserve position.
Going forward this newsletter can be whatever you need it to be, so please feedback and let us know what you would like to see here J
Gloves:
Every GK has preferences for different types of glove. You may wear gloves provided by the club or pay for your own. It is essential that gloves are safe, fit correctly and are not worn out. Nige can check this at training for you. Some youth keepers wear one pair for training and keep their ‘best’ pair for matches. This is all personal preference. The club can fund one pair per keeper, and the team coach must also carry an emergency spare set (which need not be new but must be safe). Keepers may wear their own gloves (if parents can afford this). All equipment funded by the club remains the property of the club and must be returned if you leave please. If gloves become too small and are in a usable condition these should be handed back. Requests for new gloves should be discussed with your coach and sent to berewoodsecretary@outlook.com please.
Kits:
It has been proven over the last few years that our GK seem to grow faster than their team mates! If your kit gets too small this can be returned and swapped for a new one. Again this should be communicated to your coach and emailed to berewoodsecretary@outlook.com please. Do remember that the kit should not match the outfield colour, so Sunday league players should not wear green GK jerseys, and Saturday league GK should not wear blue. We are in the process of switching to not having sponsor logo on the GK tops so these can be more easily swapped and replaced. We have a range of spare GK shorts and trousers in stock, plus more can be ordered if required. Again, shorts that are too small can be returned and passed to smaller children. A GK may wear any socks, but if you would like socks from the club stocks please request as above. Karen (u9) is now helping with kits.
GK training sessions:
Nige has fed back that all GK coming to the sessions are improving well done! We also have a GK of the month trophy. If your child does not currently attend GK sessions please speak to your coach about getting involved. These are very valuable sessions available to you for free! ALNS Wednesdays 6-7pm. We are not taking you away from your team, this is very valuable training and supports your team. Reserve GK welcome too.
Communication:
How would you like us to communicate going forward? We put GK announcements on the usual facebook page, are you seeing these? Would you like more newsletters? Does your child know the other goalkeepers? Do you use the club website? Would you like match photos included in the newsletter? Please give us parents’ and children’s opinions J
We have had some great success stories for our keepers lately, so well done! We have had cup ties going to penalties, and our teams have won! Some of our teams are very high in the league tables. Berewood is always proud of our players, win, lose or draw. We also have some success stories where some of our ex-goalkeepers have moved into outfield positions and progressed well. As always, our focus remains on long term player development, and we are grateful to have Nige as a part of this now. If we can help please let us know!
